The Trash the Dress phenomenon started with Las Vegas photographer John Michael Cooper many years ago. Nowadays TTD can mean anything from actually trashing your wedding dress to simply making it look like you are about to trash it. Typically the wedding couple will engage in water, sand or mud and have a blast jumping, splashing and often getting pretty dirty, all while loving hugging and kissing. Getting down on the ground and getting dirty is often part of the fun.
The Outer Banks lends it’s self to the TTD very well with the ocean and sound both being in easy reach. The possibilities are endless! Safety is paramount as a wet heavy dress can be a hazard, especially if the waves are large and the tides are strong. We always take safety very seriously and speaking about the conditions beforehand is very important.
Most TTD sessions are not on the wedding day but usually a few days after. Having a good plan and lots of ideas will increase the chances of getting those shots you want. So looking around on the internet for ideas is a good idea.
