We are so excited to be working with Bo & Kayla for their beautiful spring wedding in Ocracoke in 2017. We had a great time working with them on their engagement photos and are so excited for the wedding day! The engagement session day was perfect! Such a gorgeous day especially after the week was surrounded with days of bad weather. I had no idea what I was in store for that day. I was nervous and excited. I met Bo at the dock at Oregon Inlet. We loaded up my equipment and he took me on a beautiful boat ride to a private island where we met up with Kayla, her mom, and the cutest and sweetest dog ever, Sprig! Getting to the island was exciting. It was beautiful. I couldn’t wait to go explore.
I loved how well Bo and Kayla connected on camera and off. They are such an amazing couple. They were so fun to work with and are such great people! I am so honored to be a part of their wedding day! We were able to use many parts of the island for the session and it was GORGEOUS! I asked Kayla and Bo a little bit about themselves, their engagement, and their upcoming wedding. Look below for their big day plans!
Kayla is from Nags Head and works as a senior office support specialist for the Adult Services Unit at Dare County Social Services.
Kayla grew up around the water. It was beach days as a child and then when she turned fifteen she began in-shore charter fishing with her father and did that for eight years. Kayla attended East Carolina University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health Administration and a minor in Business Administration. Kayla enjoys anything that involves being on a boat or sitting by a pool.
Bo is from Manteo and works in construction for HOM Land Development. Bo also grew up around the water. He can drive a boat better than he can drive a vehicle. Bo takes fishing and hunting very seriously and it is a large part of his life. In the summer he is always chasing a fish. Be it drum, cobia or flounder–nothing is safe. In the winter he is always chasing a duck. He takes his yearly trip to Canada in the fall and then gears up for a long winter of finding anything that flies. He is open for any excuse to be outdoors and an even better excuse to skip out on work.
Kayla and Bo love spending time together. They don’t take life too seriously and they love to have fun!
A mutual friend introduced Kayla and Bo in Greenville, North Carolina while in college. They dated on and off for about two years in college before finally going their separate ways. In 2012 they found their way back to each other. Four years later Bo proposed!
Kayla and Bo got engaged on March 11, 2016. Bo bought the ring and proposed all the same day. He was a nervous wreck after purchasing the ring. He had a plan to take Kayla to a sand island and popping the question there but his nerves got the best of him. Kayla came home early that Friday afternoon and he was waiting on one knee when she walked in the door. The funny thing is that he did not even think about changing out of his work clothes. So Bo proposed to Kayla in a dirty white tee shirt, green shorts and camouflage ankle boots. It makes the proposal story that much better!
Bo & Kayla’s wedding will take place in the spring in Ocracoke. Kayla and Bo have both always loved Ocracoke and it is such a unique place so it was obvious that that is where we wanted to have it. They decided on Berkley Manor as the venue because it has a classic feel that they want for the wedding. It is an old duck hunting lodge that has been renovated. The colors for our wedding are going to be gold and blush. Kayla has always loved that color combination. The decor is going to be simple and classic because they do not want anything too over the top. The ceremony will be on a dock on Silver Lake and the reception will take place under tent in the yard of Berkley Manor. Kayla loves the classic look of baby’s breath for the flowers and the fact that it is not a formal looking flower. As for the bridal party? We know they sweet dog Sprig will be the pet of honor in the wedding.
