I met Jessica and David on the beach at Nags Head pier for their engagement session. I love to shoot at this location. There are so many options for beautiful pictures at this location.

I asked Jessica how David Proposed. Here is what she wrote:

“David popped the question by walking on the beach at sunset and got someone to take a cute picture of us with the pier in the background and then surprised me and got down on his knee. It was so perfect.
We are both nerds which is why we picked our wedding date of May 4th. David is obsessed with Star Wars.”

Jessica and David are getting married at the Hilton Garden Inn. They fell in love with location. They love the ultimate barn style and beach wedding combination of the pier. Their theme other then being Star Wars day is a nautical beach style.

Jessica said, “We picked OBX because Jessica grew up every summer going to OBX and it’s her favorite place in the world. It’s the place David proposed and a great location for our wedding.”

Thomas & Terica are from North Carolina. Thomas is going to dental school while Terica ia a training manager for a cleaning service. They met in High School on a school trip for an honors Sex Education course. They had to come to Nag Heads, NC for a school trip.

Thomas proposed on the Outer Banks. He planned a trip to the OBX and got friends together. Then he walked Terica up to the the sand dunes and put candles in the sand. He played the first song Terica every sung to him. Then they danced. He got on one knee and asked. The song was Bubbly by Colbie Calliet.
Here are some wonderful photos capturing their love!

We shoot a lot of large weddings. Occasionally, we get to shoot intimate weddings.  Often you get the opportunity to be more personal in this kind of wedding setting.  I loved working with this family. The kids were adorable, fun, and had wonderful manners. The couple was amazing and you could tell how deep they love each other.

The week had been warm until the wedding day. The temperatures dropped overnight and we were faced with cold weather. We started the day off photographing Chad and the guys and then Desiree and her family. As the finishing touches were being done I was able to capture the reception area and the ceremony set up before the day started.

The ceremony started on time. Even though it was chilly, everyone was able to huddle close and keep each other warm during the ceremony. We got most of our portraits done after the ceremony and went in to warm up for a bit before finishing our portrait list. We were able to get most of the main events done at this time and then went out to finish up the portraits and romantic portraits toward the end of the day. The day ended with the cake cutting. A great day was had by all!

P.S. One of my favorite ideas from their wedding: Dinner- They had a taco bar!

Here is some information from our bride:

First date: Chad and I had our first real date at a small local coffee shop in March 2014. It had taken lots of navigating back and forth through our work and child care schedules to arrive at this small window of time and in this quaint place to learn more about each other. He came straight from a long hard day of work, still in his uniform and I was in my favorite mom jeans (how he describes them) and blouse. We must have looked like quite the odd couple as he ordered his iced green tea and I ordered a tall dark roast, no sugar, a splash of cream. We made our way to a quiet table and it all began to come together. We laughed and joked as we talked about work and family, music and cars, food and travel. In that brief time, we found we had a lot of differences, but many more similarities and what bound us together was our passion for life and our love for family. I knew we would share a second date and many more because we were both still open to the notion of love and not jaded by the failed relationships of our pasts. Almost most 4 years to the day after that date, we said “I do” on the shores of the Outer Banks!

We chose to have our wedding in the Outer Banks because we dreamed of a wedding that was all about our families and the blending together of our children into those families. The OBX provided a beautiful location as well as spacious properties where the families could relax and coexist in the days leading up to the ceremony. This time was perfect for allowing the families to bond and get to know each other and for our children to see that going into the big day. We had always dreamed of a beach wedding and choosing to have our wedding on the beach of the Outer Banks ensured that so many of our family and friends could be there to share it with us and our children.

Planning a wedding from afar was tricky. We did not have an opportunity to visit with any of the wedding vendors we had chosen. We received some fantastic recommendations for photography, cake, and hair and makeup through the miracles of social media and used our instincts to choose the best venue, officiant, and decor vendor. We were very pleased with how beautifully everything came together and with the level of professionalism and communication from all of our vendors.

We had a great time working with Vanessa and Ray and their beautiful family on their wedding day. The day started with photographing some of the brides details. Then grabbing the groom and the best man, and the ring bearer for some getting ready photos. After that, I went and spent time with this lovely bride and her attendants. We had such a fun time! The ceremony was held in the house but we were able to make it to the beach for some beautiful photos. We were able to capture the love that this beautiful couple shares. Their story is quite amazing and it was my honor to capture their moments. We ended the evening with such a fun reception and some great food.

I asked the bride to share a little bit about her day with us.

From the bride:

Ray and I are from Fayetteville N.C. We have always been adventurous and outdoorsy throughout our almost five years together, including the children in our trips camping, fishing, and swimming in the lake.  We just knew that we would have to get married somewhere special and beautiful and make it another adventure to cherish.
We met while Ray was doing some major repairs to my grandmother’s house. The first time we laid eyes on one another there was a spark and as we worked tirelessly in a hot house with no air in the dead of summer, we fell in love. We snuck off like teenagers at night to cool off by the lake and do some fishing.
In our years together we’ve seen some major ups and downs, but through it all we have become stronger and more determined to be together and to always make the best of what life has in store for us.  We are now a happy family of five who will fight for each other indefinitely.
All of us put in a lot of work for this special occasion. The kids were as excited as we were to see Ray and I take the plunge. We weren’t getting any younger and we all knew that we would be together always. So with Kota as the most dapper ring bearer, and Akira and Maria standing next to their mother in support and love, we said I Do as a family.  The amount of heart and soul we poured into this union was immense on so many levels.  One piece of advice……. you can never be too prepared!! Ha ha. With the right people,  no matter what goes wrong,  you will persevere and laugh through it. The best part of our wedding day hands down has to be the overwhelming support and teamwork of our closest family and our friends. We are so blessed to have these amazing selfless loved ones who are willing to do whatever it takes to see things through. Every time we come together we do so as one big family and it’s always a good time. Hands down the best, although most stressed, day of our lives!  Our only regret is that Raymond’s mother and father could not have been on this earth to see their son take his bride’s hand in marriage. We certainly felt their presence with our whole family on our special day and carry them in our hearts always. Also his baby brother Allen.
